ABOUT US

Benedictus first opened its doors at the original Richmond Road location in 1996 as the culmination of Mr. Jim Cloud’s vision to have an authentic Catholic resource store for the faith community of the Diocese of Lexington.  As the original owner, Jim shepherded the store for its first 18 years of business.  He grew the business and relocated the store to Moore Drive.  In 2013, the diocese assumed ownership of the store as an apostolate, and relocated the store to its present location on Southland Drive.

Then in 2017, a group of private benefactors took ownership after the diocese announced its intention to close the store.  With the blessing of Bishop John Stowe, Benedictus is recognized as an ecclesiastical approbation, meaning the business continues with full approval of the Catholic Bishop of Lexington.

The benefactors' primary intent is to keep Benedictus Books & Gifts open as a source of authentic Catholic resources.  This ministry is integral to many in the faith community of the Diocese of Lexington - the parishes, the schools, faithful Catholics, and those on the journey of faith.   We appreciate the opportunity to assist you in your faith needs and we appreciate your support.
